Become a Successful Trader

June 9, 2012

A Quick Update from Tim – Exciting News!

Wow, it’s been a busy couple of weeks! Volatile markets, a change of location, and racing begins, let’s jump right in.

Volatility – What to Expect this Summer?

As soon as the smallest level of fear creeps into the market things start to get wild. This is great for intraday traders because it means a rise in volatility. We track volatility via the volatility index (VIX). You can catch my instructional webinar on Adapting to Market Volatility below.

When volatility picks up, opportunities also increase. I’ve found the sweet spot for intraday trading to be in the VIX 25-35 area. Anything below 20 I consider to be low volatility and we see rather tight ranges. Anything above say VIX 40 can lead to whipsaw price swings that can be difficult to hold onto.

The summer months are often a slower time of the year for traders, but the way things are looking these next few months are going to provide a lot of great trading opportunities.

Here is the list of Upcoming Webinars for June (Monday’s at 8:00 PM EST)

June 11 – Demystifying Futures Rollover

June 18 – A Week of Trade Setups

June 25 – The HLB/LHB Strategy

My Move to Madison

Madison, Wisconsin

That’s right! Last weekend I moved myself and my office up to Madison, Wisconsin. I was looking for a change of surrounding and I certainly found it. I also, wanted to be closer to my cycling team and the riding here is fantastic. My heart will always lie with Chicago (it still remains my favorite city in the world), but from an outdoor activity perspective Madison has a ton to offer.

My office setup remains the same, two monitors powered by one desktop PC; yet another benefit of downsizing from three to two monitors less equipment to move.

Mountain Biking

Tim Racette

As most of you know my other passion aside from trading is mountain biking. I love the challenge, the adrenalin rush, and of course the competition. Biking has helped me keep that work/life balance, something I emphasize a lot here on the blog. For me it’s biking, for you it might be something different. I encourage you to get outside and find something fun to do.

What do you do for fun outside of trading? I’d love to hear about what you do to bring balance to your life. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Well – That’s what I’ve been up to. Thank you for all the amazing support!

Lots more cool stuff to come at EminiMind.

Stay tuned!

  1. Hi Tim,

Looks great nice pic, I love to spend time with my son Leo aged 6 the next generation trader. He knows the difference between uptrend and down trend already! It’s a big world out there glad the move went well.

    Regards

    Wayne
